ABSTRACT

Exercise-induced asthma and exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (Effi) are synonymous terms used to describe the airway narrowing that follows vigorous exercise; Em is widely defined as a reduction in forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV 1) or peak expiratory flow (PEF) of 15% or more after exercise (1 ). Exercise itself is not necessary to provoke airway narrowing, and hyperventilation with dry air containing 5% carbon dioxide will provoke the same severity of airway narrowing (23).
