Research suggests that school leaders who attend to their school culture see improvements in areas from teacher satisfaction to student achievement. One research study found that leaders who have been trained to understand how relationships and values interact in a school can improve their campus cultures but it is not always a healthy one. In a negative school culture, teacher relations are often conflictual: the staff doesn't believe in the ability of the students to succeed, and has a generally negative attitude. The most important aspect of a positive school culture is effective leadership. According to Dr. Terry Orr, here are a few factors to focus upon in creating a positive school culture such as: have sense of vision and purpose, have clear values and let them direct policy, create student-centered mindset, use of resources should reflect values and response to crises should be effective.
