ABSTRACT

Many of us have been inundated with these types of questions from children. Children are naturally curious about their world, and they want to know how things work and what causes things to happen (Yopp & Yopp, 2004). Because of this curiosity, parents, caregivers, preschool teachers, and primary teachers should expose children, beginning at a young age, to expository (informational) texts (Gambrell, Morrow, & Pennington, 2002; Kamil & Lane, 1997; Duke & Kays, 1998; Clay, 1993; Harste, Woodward, & Burke, 1984).
