Rev. Joseph Spence, extracts from An Essay on Pope's Odyssey: in which Some particular Beauties and Blemishes of that Work are consider'd …, part i (1726). The first volume of Spence's work appeared early in June 1726, fourteen months after the publication of books i–xiv of the Odyssey. A second part was published in 1727 (see next item), after the completion of the Odyssey.
