ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a small group intervention developed in a clinical setting in London UK which is aimed at a target population of gay men who are experiencing difficulties in initiating and maintaining safer sex. Since there were no available validated instruments measuring self-efficacy in the area of the personal sexual practice of gay men, an instrument in the form of a Situational Confidence Questionnaire was developed as an evaluation measure of the intervention. The Overall Evaluation Questionnaire which was developed for participants' feedback of their experience of the workshops and facilitators, has built-in quantitative measures of expectations, perceptions of outcome, and behaviour change. The participants gave detailed feedback of their experiences of attending the workshops and of issues of current importance to gay men in the area of personal sexual practice.
