ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses innovation and entrepreneurship as one of the most important initiatives of industrial policies in Europe, United States of America and the rest of the world. It provides a presentation on the origins of the innovation concept – what can be learned from Joseph A. Schumpeter – and explores how close the innovation concept was linked to the economic development of the society. The chapter shows how the innovation concept can be operationalized today and use this for an analysis of an innovation in the white meat producing firms in the project. It presents some of the literature in this field – what happens on the way from creativity to innovations. The chapter also discusses some light on the link between knowledge generation and utilization to innovative initiatives. Innovations in firms are essential but they must have a system for management of the innovation process to improve competitiveness.
