ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the manner in which Inoue reconciled his traumatic childhood experience of World War II. It clarifies Inoue's perspective in the Tokyo Trials Trilogy and the kinds of messages he wanted to convey to modern readers. The chapter concentrates on Inoue's perspective on the Tokyo trials from 1999 to 2006, the period during which he wrote the trilogy. Inoue described what led to his writing the Tokyo Trials Trilogy as taking place about ten years before writing the first play, Yume no sakeme. It examines the manner in which Inoue reconciled his harsh experiences in World War II as a shokokumin. Inoue was born in 1934 (Showa 9), and the war came to an end when he was eleven. He belongs to the yakeato sedai.
