ABSTRACT
In many schools, the policy is to write the learning objectives on the board at the start of the lesson and then to get pupils to copy them into their books. For the objectives to be understood, they don’t necessarily have to be written down, as long as the teacher has explained them clearly to the class, though it could be argued that it is useful to have them on display so that they can be referred to throughout the lesson. If the school policy is to display learning objectives, then it is the role of the middle leader to visit lessons and to check that they make sense. A good lesson plan has a sharp focus and indicates clearly what pupils will have learnt by the end of the lesson. It sets out the learning in a series of sensible steps and outlines very briefly the activities to be undertaken to achieve the aims of the lesson.
