This chapter examines a crucial aspect of English instruction today: how to incorporate technological purposefully and strategically. It considers what it means to purposefully integrate technologically into English instruction and then reflects on why doing so is important to effective teaching. The purposeful integration of technology enhances English instruction in a variety of ways: it prioritizes student learning, eliminates the frustration of excessive technology use, and helps students become careful technology users. The chapter explores each of these benefits of strategically incorporating technology, reflecting on how its purposeful use leads to each one and why each enhances the experiences of both students and teachers. It looks in-depth at two key suggestions that can help reader purposefully integrate technology into their English instruction as effectively as possible: identify and evaluate the benefits of each technological integration and explain to students the benefits of each technological integration.
