In this chapter, the authors begin with the assumption that the user wishes to assess participants using more than one simulation. Integrated simulations for executives often begin with pre-work sent to participants in advance that provides background information that will be important during the simulation and gives participants the opportunity to practice using the online assessment platform to send and receive emails and to conduct video calls using a webcam. There are theoretical and practical reasons why integrated simulations may be problematic. From a measurement perspective, multiple opportunities to observe behavior are typically more reliable and valid than single opportunities. In addition to the argument that "Day in the Life" arrangements are more realistic, proponents of integrated simulations argue that interruptions and requirements to shift rapidly between tasks induce a level of stress that cannot be replicated in discrete simulations.
