ABSTRACT

There is growing concern for effective control of risk on projects, particularly software intensive projects. That concern emphasises the need for Risk Management. It is important to understand the ingredients of Risk Management and their integration into the overall project management.

This paper identifies the various ingredients of Risk Management, and the necessary interfaces with all the aspects of the project. Hence the natural integration of Risk and Project Management will become obvious. The importance of key project personnel appreciating Risk Control should become obvious.

It will show the differences between Risk Management by a project contractor and Risk Management by the customer for the whole life-cycle programme. These differences highlight the potential for a conflict of interests.
