ABSTRACT

Textual analysis is a topic often reserved for high school English classes or specific university courses—but it doesn’t have to be. There are so many ways to look at the games the people play. There are hundreds of questions the people can ask about each game they play, and no single question is more important than any other. Textual analysis can lead to multiple arguments being made about any one text, each of which can exist simultaneously and sometimes contradictorily. Textual analysis encourages curiosity, asking the reader to apply a range of lenses to the world the people live in and unpack the power dynamics that are permitted to thrive there. It is important to also apply the perspective of intersectionality so that the people do not accidentally make assumptions about the experiences of individuals simply because they are connected by one dimension of their identities.
