ABSTRACT
Modern aviation as an international industry possesses many complex and often diverse aspects. New aircraft technologies have made ultra long-haul transportation viable at a time when there is a consistent and medium- to long-term growth in the demand for services involving much larger numbers of passengers and cargo. The Asia-Pacific rim is perceived to be the future market leader in world aviation with demand expected to rise exponentially during the first quarter of the century. At the core of the development China and the various states that constitute the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The economic geography and strategic dynamics of structural change with regard to the increasing importance of inter-modal transportation systems. The intention appears to be to create a mega economic zone. The primary economic purpose for this level of economic concentration is for the system to act as a super-entrepot, servicing the increasingly global markets for Chinese exports.
