ABSTRACT

During the present century much has been written about Robert Browne and Robert Harrison, but he would be a bold man who claimed that the definitive word had been spoken about them -about their characters and personalities, or even their careers. For a few years their lives were interwoven, but Browne lived on half-a-life-time, indeed nearly fifty years, after Harrison had died as an exile (1585 1) in Middelburg in Walcheren in Holland, where already some of his children had died.
