ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the existence of plurality as a key characteristic of our contemporary societies. In doing so, it draws attention to the diverse forms of plurality that come together within our experience of social reality, including social differences, political differences, and religious plurality. Having identified this as a critical part of our current world, the chapter then examines the foundations of the theological movement Radical Orthodoxy, identifying key individuals and themes within the movement. As part of this, the chapter introduces the connection between the project of Radical Orthodoxy and the current plural reality of our societies. A lack of developed address to plurality is identified as a key weakness of the content and theoretical framework of Radical Orthodoxy, particularly of the work of Joh Milbank, and this problematic factor is addressed.
