ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the new methods and techniques that have developed together with relevant digital technology, and traditional methods that have been modified, changed or aided by digital technology, even though the method in itself may have a long pre-digital history. It aims to researchers, educators and students working primarily within the social sciences, education and humanities, but will also be of interest to those within a number of other disciplines and fields of study including management and business, health and nursing, information sciences, human geography and urban planning. The term ‘digital’ is used as an umbrella term to describe research methods that use computer-based products, solutions for data collection and analysis, including online, mobile, location, sensor-based technologies. The book provides the enough information about suitable methods that will help to facilitate choices and point toward relevant texts and resources for further inquiry.
