ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reflects the renewed and growing interest in constitutional development and governance in Africa. It provides a comprehensive look at constitutional developments and challenges of constitutional governance in Kenya since colonial times. The book examines the processes and issues of constitutional development, constitution making and the challenges of constitutional governance and legitimacy in Kenya and beyond. It focuses on constitutional development, participatory constitution making and constitutional governance challenges in Kenya and Africa at large. The book aims to objectively contribute to the ongoing scholarly debates on the feasibility of democratic constitutional enterprises in Africa and the imperatives of conceiving and enacting a legitimate constitutional order. It is expected to be a useful reference text and resource for scholars, researchers, legal practitioners, civic educators, development workers, activists and policy makers interested in matters of constitutional law, democratic reforms and comparative politics in Africa.
