ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Thailand. It presents a detailed review of the existing research that has been undertaken on sustainability assessments, and the sustainability assessment is integrated with proposed conceptual framework on corporate sustainability assessments. The book provides an assessment of the sustainability practices of multinational enterprises (MNEs) operating in Thailand across the manufacturing and service sectors. It presents some insights into World Class practices that are adopted, including the different tools and techniques to achieve foreign direct investment. The book also presents a discussion and conclusion of the results, including the presentation of the key World Class practices evident across our sample of organisations. A sustainability assessment is a method for integrating the different strands of impact assessment to better inform decision-making for the promotion of sustainable economic development.
