ABSTRACT

We have so far explored the aesthetic (Chapter 2) and the theoretical (Chapter 3) dimensions of the myth of the clash of civilizations. The latter is not only a story charged with a strong emotional appeal, but also a cognitive scheme for the mapping of the world we live in. Yet it is a scheme on the basis of which people also orient themselves and act in the world. This is what we have called the practical dimension of a political myth and it is to such a dimension that this chapter is devoted.
