ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses a project’s path from initial assignment and conception, through sorting out what is significant, shaping it into a message, and guiding readers to an action. It addresses the different types of documents planners have to create, the different media they use, and the different audiences they address. The book offers strategies that help writers start a project and see it through to a clear and coherent piece of work. It is designed to be a useful reference for standards as well as a catalyst to encourage thoughtful expression. Both staff and managers can use it to create consistently well-thought out and well-presented work. Students will find it helpful in applying professional standards and as a quick reference, and professionals may keep it on their desks for guidance in establishing workplace standards, and to improve their own work.
