Introduction to the Companion book
ABSTRACT
Although most modern scholars would argue with Plato's conception of an ideal world, all would agree that he was deeply interested in the relationships between the world we live in and the artistic representations of that world. This book focuses on dance, film, radio, stage plays, literature, television, and new media from a wide range of theoretical approaches. They are not presented here in terms of their own forms, but instead the Companion offers a structure which allows readers to see adaptation in terms of history, identity, reception, and technology. The book offers one piece of advice: learn how to think about multiple things at the same time. The book is full of connections that most of us have missed, despite the fact that in some cases they have been under our noses for years.
