ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The author outlines the reasons that lobbying is alien to Arab culture as this will enable to give a fair and objective assessment of Arab Gulf lobbying throughout the research. The concept of representation that exists in American politics and on which lobbying is based does not exist in the Arab Gulf. However, the view of Arab Gulf states of reciprocal non-interference has suppressed their appetite to lobby in the US. The power structure in the US is diffused due to two factors: the first one stems from the separation of powers in which different branches exercise checks on each other; the second factor has to do with the fact that the system empowers communities. The book focuses on causality between events and actions and on a specific problem; additionally, the research is a real world-oriented practice.
