ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes reference to a variety of teaching strategies, with applied examples, to aid reader development as a Physical Education (PE) teacher early on in reader career. It produces a companion, to guide trainee or qualified teachers through some of the factors which will contribute to the effective teaching of PE. The book needs to be embedded into readers teaching routines, such as assessment strategies and questioning. Teaching PE presents a great opportunity to inspire the next generation of students to be healthier and more active, among many other key skills. Before deciding to embark on a career within the subject, it is important to understand what PE is. This question can be answered in three sections: developing physical skills; improving knowledge; and nurturing inter-personal skills.
