Introduction

The above examples illustrate that the calculation of electromagnetic scattering by bodies with complex surface treatments or coatings is an important area of research. While the problem of scattering by perfectly conducting objects is a relatively simple one, the addition of coatings or surface treatments complicates the problem significantly. Even in the era of the supercomputer one must often resort to approximation methods to solve the problem of electromagnetic scattering by these more complicated bodies.
