ABSTRACT
Is there a need for the practice of Highly Effective Therapy today? It should come as no surprise that in the current era of accountability and evidence-based practice, the training and practice of psychotherapy is expected to become increasingly competency-based. Thus, it is becoming less acceptable for therapists to practice conventional therapy that is standards-based. It is also harder to justify standards-based training with its focus on the core curriculum when the need and demand for competency-based training with a focus on core competencies is so evident. This need and demand are reflected in the movement toward competency-based training by the American Psychological Association, the American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training, the American Counseling Association, and the American Association of Marital and Family Therapy. This book also reflects this demand for preparing therapists for competency-based practice.
