ABSTRACT

Europe has a long and rich history of forensic entomology (Benecke 2001). In many countries, publications from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth centuries introduced readers to the potential of insect evidence in criminal investigations, for example, in Austria (Von Hofmann 1886), Poland (Horoszkiewicz 1902; Niezabitowski 1902), France (Bergeret 1855; Mégnin 1894), Germany (Reinhard 1882), Spain (Graëlls 1886), and Sweden (Schöyen 1895).
