ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to offer guidance that will help readers to develop their approach to clinical supervision. It is intended to introduce many of the basic and essential responsibilities and understandings that inhere in good clinical supervision. E. Charles maintains an independent clinical practice as a psychologist. Based on training as a clinical supervisor, Charles meets the requirements of his state for those who provide clinical supervision services for prospective licensees. A common aspiration among clinical supervisors is to assist their supervisees in their attempts to develop professionally accountable clinical judgment. This aspiration is sometimes frustrated by almost all of their supervisees. The book provides basic and needed information about supervision-related professional ethics, legal issues in clinical supervision, the credentials and qualifications that prospective supervisees bring to clinical supervision, how clinical supervisors develop, and how supervisees develop.
