ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on bike-sharing systems, which became a staple in contemporary and sustainable transportation plans. It discusses Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a transportation system praised worldwide, based on the combination of buses and land use privileging high densities. The book examines the surveillance technologies and the territoriality of slower moving urban dynamics. The number of surveillance cameras has also increased significantly in recent years under the crime prevention discourse. Cameras became an important part of the real estate market, as a must-have security component of today's architecture, but also as a representation of power relations in the construction of urban territories, reinforcing visibility and the mentality of governing as important elements of Foucault's notion of governmentality. In this way, surveillance and territorialization are the filters used to explain sociotechnical arrangements on both sides of the cameras.
