ABSTRACT

Unlike previous eras when values and ways of life were tied mainly to local contexts and influences, cultural forms today circulate far more widely and are used in ever more innovative ways. The resulting struggles over culture and identity on a global scale have become core issues for scholars across a wide range of disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. This book adds to the ongoing debates and does so with an open mind. The diverse perspectives presented in the following chapters have been brought together here in order to give advanced students an opportunity to discuss and debate the very terms of the future.
