ABSTRACT
In Dutch, demonstrative pronouns are called aanwijzend voornaamwoord; aanwijzen means to point to something. That is what they do, they point to something in particular. The form of the demonstrative pronoun depends on the gender of the noun, whether it is singular or plural, and how close or how far away the object is from the speaker.
