Note the difference between the regular (weak) and the strong verbs (see words in italic). The forms speelde, kookte and maakte are regular, and all of the italic forms in 2 are strong verbs.

The simple past tense of regular (weak) verbs is formed by adding the ending -te to verb stems ending in one of the consonants of ‘T FoKSCHaaP maakte,

Peter maakte met Johan huiswerk. Peter did homework with Johan. Sanne kookte soep voor zondag. Sanne cooked soup for Sunday.
