ABSTRACT

Martin Rees of the University of Cambridge explains even fields tackling large matters, like astronomy, are far simpler than human sciences; black holes can be described precisely by simple equations, and a star's nature can be captured in a simple sentence. In the messy field of education, an overwhelming number of variables join with the complex natures of students and other stakeholders to make complete understanding difficult to achieve. Transcending the boundaries of traditional silos in the field is best for students. Being scrappy means being determined and thinking outside the box to find numerous, creative ways to seize opportunities. It also means aiming high for maximum impact. The field of education is notorious for embracing new terminology, often when new terms are unnecessary. The visual cortex in the back of the brain is extremely fast and efficient, whereas cognition is much slower and not as efficient; because of this, visualizing information takes fuller advantage of the brain's abilities.
