ABSTRACT

Having a conversation is the essence of respect, learning, and coming together. There is a long tradition of conversation in philosophy, with perhaps the high point being Plato’s writings of his many conversations. The political agenda in Denmark was upsetting many of the traditional working conditions and using claims about Visible Learning to defend the changes (some wrong and some right attributions). Academic ideas thrive in the primordial ooze of critique. Academic models need to be tested, falsified, and rebuilt. Unlike many public conversations, and certainly unlike many online fora, the aim is to critique the ideas, not the person. Already there are two cultures evident — the world of a philosopher and the world of an educational psychologist and psychometrician. One has much to learn about each other’s heritage and language.
