ABSTRACT

In the beginning of the book, I introduce the reader into the subject matter and justify, with examples and references, the need for a detailed theoretical analysis of the concept of ‘finite province of meaning’ in contemporary sociology, anthropology, and other social sciences. The reader is presented with a brief survey of the existing texts that deal, directly or tangentially, with the problem of the multiplicity of the sphere of life. The present book is also framed within the current trends of the social sciences related to the topic, and the works of several scholars who have written about FPMs or connected matters are referenced.
