ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 is the introductory chapter of the book, which describes the context of the research and draws upon relevant theories, suggestions and conceptualizations in the prevailing literature to focus the research gap and the ways in which gender analysis in disaster research can be conceptualized. The chapter presents the background to the selection of research questions, study area and methodology for the present research.
