ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. Part seven of the book explores some forms of legacy media such as long-form documentary and fictional dramatic realism. It focuses on innovative practices, such as a diary format and media designed to promote diplomacy. The book then evaluates the success of Half the Sky and the film's attempt to cast celebrities as moral agents helping viewers emotionally connect to the issues and the people involved. It also highlights the various ways in which state and intergovernmental actors intervene in foreign environments in times of conflict and crisis to introduce information technologies, institutions, and content for the purpose of providing humanitarian and emergency relief. The book discusses the making of the documentary, Last Station Before Hell, and details the challenges posed by the mostly negative media frames applied to UN Peacekeepers. It then introduces an interesting peace keeping device—Radio Okapi.
