ABSTRACT

There have been several advances in approaches to breaktime and the school grounds. There is an awareness of the value of the better understanding of behaviour in playgrounds, because of the importance of children’s social relationships and of play there. There is a recognition of the exciting possibilities in the design (and redesign) of the school grounds. There is better appreciation of management and supervision issues concerning the playground. And there is more awareness of the possibilities provided by the involvement of pupils in decision making and conflict resolution.
