ABSTRACT
The introductory chapter situates the volume in the emerging research field of religion and development. It proceeds to explain two overarching concepts used throughout the volume: African Initiated Christianity and sustainable development. The chapter synthesizes six key potentials of African Initiated Christianity for sustainable development: demographic significance, development activities, African solutions, empowerment and agency, transformation and decolonising development. Finally, the chapter provides an outline of the contributions in the collection.
