ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter presents the book’s scope, context and content, as well as the sources employed and the methodology used to analyse them. It provides a short overview of the Mass Observation organisation, its aim and role during the war, its archives and the material it offers. Then, the specific data used and the process of their selection are described. Finally the methodology specifically designed to comprehend and analyse these sources is explained.
