ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology, the widely expanding branch, deals with the study of the properties, applications, and toxicity of particles of smaller dimensions particularly less than 100 nm. This chapter provides a brief introduction to the exciting world of nanoscience and its importance in study. This chapter also provides an overview to the different types of nanomaterials such as quantum dots, liposomes, dendrimers, nanoshells and nanoparticles, nanotubes, and polymeric nanoparticles that are mainly used in biomedical application. The necessity for the adaptation of green nanoparticles is also discussed in this chapter.
