ABSTRACT

An outline of Simons’s academic career begins with a journal article on taxation in 1923 and ends with a posthumously edited Economic Policy for a Free Society, 1948. Friedrich Hayek contemporaneously described this as a collection ‘which clearly and courageously raises the central problems of our time’. A discursive commentary explains the content and relevance of the chapters that follow.
