Often in modern art, the finished product does not convey the artist's behind-the-scenes work to develop the piece. Pollock's paintings, which may appear effortless or easy, are in reality quite thoughtfully created. Social media technology has transformed daily life in terms of how people communicate with one another, and how they acquire and share news. It has even influenced how people understand and experience social relationships. In recent years, much has been made of teens' obsessive use of social media, and the popular discussion about its use among adolescents has largely been reduced to defining social media as either a tool for good or evil. Creating and organizing images for social media allows teens to put forth a visual narrative of the self. This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows the teens' images and includes quotes from the interviews and focus groups.
