ABSTRACT
I overheard two professors talking. One told the other that she was having a difficult time getting women professors to serve on a status-of-women committee. She reported that the women they had invited declined because they were afraid that they would not get tenure if they were involved on a committee dealing with women’s issues. It seemed as though those who were approached were interested, and wanted to be involved, but felt afraid to pursue their interest in women’s issues.
