ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the reasons why it is essential to stay connected to various other professionals during ones venture into the private practice world, as well as how to avoid feeling isolated, disconnected, and burned out. Being in a private practice provides the freedom to create a schedule that can accommodate whatever external or internal demands people confront. Developing a private practice allows one the opportunity to develop a niche or specialty in order to work with the types of issues and clients that they enjoy most. The benefits of private practice, being the boss, flexible schedule, and the opportunity to work with specific types of clients are all contributing factors to the income potential of one private practice, as well as to their happiness in private practice. It is clear that private practice brings many professional and personal joys, but it can also bring feelings of isolation, professional loneliness, and disconnection from the colleagues.
