ABSTRACT
Sea-launched cruise missile can be fired from surface ships and submarines. Technological competition provides an added impetus to the arms race since new technologies promise new military capabilities. In the area of conventional weapons, so-called emerging technology offers the possibility of launching highly accurate and selective attacks well behind enemy lines. World spending on military research and development is rising much faster than military spending as a whole. The Lawrence Livermore Laboratory is one of several establishments in the United States of America which undertake military research. It plays a significant part in the development of nuclear bombs and warheads. Electromagnetic pulse is produced by the interaction of the nuclear radiation of a nuclear explosion and the atoms and molecules of the air. A first-strike weapon is part of an overall capability of destroying within a very short period of time all or nearly all of an adversary’s strategic nuclear forces.
