In the run up to Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, scheduled for 21 September, Taibei was eager that Washington not take additional action, similar to the assurances which Ambassador Cabot had given to Ambassador Wang on 23 June, to further diminish its confidence in the ROC-American alliance.1
