ABSTRACT

This paper is divided into three main sections. The first will offer a description of what I consider to be some of the more important difficulties or theoretical problems associated with attempts to call up or define popular culture; this section will take off from and concern itself with certain notions put forward in de Certeau’s ‘The beauty of the dead’ (1986).
