ABSTRACT

Some time back I was interviewing Hannah Steinberg, and she said to me that she felt that one of the key discoveries was the discovery of enkephalin in the brain. This was brought home to her in an unusual way when she went to try and get a copy of Nature to photocopy a copy of your article and found that the actual pages for that article had worn away – and this was only about two or three years after it had come out. Clearly it was a piece of work that caught the imagination not just for people within the field but of the wider public. Can I ask you how it all came about?
