ABSTRACT
This article describes journals devoted to the field of visual arts, a term that includes painting, drawing, the graphic and media arts, sculpture, architecture, decorative arts, design, and photography. Journals devoted to the visual arts have a broad readership, including art historians, artists, museum and gallery-goers, art librarians, art dealers, curators, hobbyists, students, and the interested public. In order to address this group’s diverse interests and expertise, numerous visual arts journals were launched in the twentieth century and many hundreds are presently in publication worldwide. Every country in the world publishes at least one national art journal. The United States is considered to be at the forefront of journal publishing for the visual arts.
