Grandmother Phai is fifty years old. She has had five pregnancies and has three surviving children, having miscarried her third pregnancy and fifth pregnancy. Last year she fell over whilst working: "It was like my mot luuk (uterus) 1 broke or snapped. It stung and stung and now it ook horn (gives out heat)" she said. Now, since the fall, she has maat khaaw (vaginal discharge): "If I had a lot of maat khaaw it is no good, that would mean I had cancer. When I take "Win" [an analgesic] then it is OK. Last year it was so bad I couldn't work either to plant rice or to harvest".
